At M&H Carriers, our strength has always been our people. From drivers and depot staff to office teams and managers, everyone brings something unique to the table. And now, that commitment to valuing difference has seen us shortlisted for the Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Award at the inaugural Herald & GenAnalytics Scottish Impact Awards 2025.
This is an award that celebrates organisations that go beyond words – building workplaces where everyone belongs, diversity is championed, and inequality is challenged head-on. And for us, it’s a proud moment that demonstrates how inclusion isn’t just a poster on the staff room wall, it’s something woven into our day-to-day – how we hire, how we train, how we support, and how we treat each other.
But what does this look like at M&H Carriers?
Well, for us it means:
- Making sure every manager and supervisor completes Equality Act training, so fairness and respect aren’t optional extras, they’re the standard.
- Rolling out HR-led programmes on respect, boundaries, and support, sparking the kinds of conversations that really change workplace culture.
- Introducing Sign Live so John, our deaf warehouse supervisor, can communicate smoothly with his team and thrive in his role.
- Creating quiet spaces and tailored onboarding for neurodiverse colleagues like Bailey and Josh – who have since become valued members of our Argyll and Inverness teams.
- Welcoming more young people, women, and colleagues from underrepresented groups into meaningful roles across our depots and offices.
Today, our team represents more than ten nationalities; women are stepping into leadership, warehouse, and driving roles; and our youngest recruits – many under 18 – are paid a fair and equal wage, right alongside colleagues with decades of experience.
And it’s a commitment that’s also been recognised by others in the industry.
This year, we also had the immense pleasure of being featured in Transport News, where journalist Jack Carfrae explored the real-world impact of employing neurodiverse and deaf colleagues in logistics. From John’s 16-year career with us, to Bailey and Josh finding their feet in their first full-time roles, the piece helped challenge old-fashioned perceptions in our industry and show what’s possible when people get the support they deserve.
But let’s remember: recognition, whether through awards or press coverage, doesn’t sit with a single person. It belongs to everyone at M&H Carriers – because when people value people, and support one another, great things follow.
The awards ceremony takes place in Glasgow on Tuesday, September 16, and whatever the outcome, we know we’ll come away proud – proud of our team, proud of the progress we’ve made, and proud that inclusion is something we live, not just talk about.
