On September 16, we had the privilege of attending the inaugural Scottish Impact Awards 2025 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow, where we were delighted to be named winner of the Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Award (250+ employees)
And while we’re proud to gain the recognition, this moment is about more than just us.
For M&H Carriers, this award reflects years of work to make logistics a sector where everyone – regardless of age, background, or ability – can find their place and thrive. But it’s also proof that when inclusion is made a priority, workplaces can become engines of opportunity and growth.
Bringing Inclusion to Life
Over the past 18 months, we’ve worked hard to embed inclusion into the DNA of our business.
This means that every depot manager and supervisor has now completed Equality Act 2010 training, equipping them with the tools they need to foster fair and respectful workplaces. Adding to this, more HR-led sessions have encouraged open, honest conversations about professional boundaries, behaviour, and what it truly means to look out for one another.
But what matters most is how this comes to life across our depots every single day.
When John Montgomery, a deaf colleague, needed a more effective way to communicate, we introduced Sign Live technology, allowing him to engage freely with his team. As for Bailey and Josh, both autistic and completely new to full-time work, patient onboarding, mentoring, and regular check-ins gave them the confidence to build a future with us.
We’ve also prioritised fair opportunities for young people, paying under-18s the same hourly rate as staff aged 23 and over – giving them a strong start in their working lives. And we’re proud to see more women taking on leadership roles in Customer Service, Compliance, HR, and Finance, as well as stepping into driving and warehouse positions that have historically been male-dominated.
Furthermore, our workforce now represents more than 10 nationalities, supported by multilingual signage, plain-language onboarding, and hands-on guidance from managers to ensure everyone feels included from day one.
Why It Matters for the Logistics Industry
For too long, logistics has been seen as a tough, traditional sector – one that can be hard to access if you don’t fit the mould. But wins like this prove that things are changing.
By removing barriers to work, creating equal pay opportunities for young people, and opening doors for women and neurodiverse colleagues, M&H Carriers is showing that logistics can be a place where people can build a future.
“This industry can be tough, and we can be hard on ourselves when things don’t go exactly to plan. But seeing John, Bailey and Josh collect the Diversity & Inclusion Leadership Award – along with colleagues and suppliers who have supported them and our business – was something special.
“I was absolutely delighted to win this award, but nothing compares to the feeling of pride I had watching these three gentlemen go up on stage to receive it.
“And yes – the evening brought its fair share of ‘experiences’ for us all. The kind of moments that keep you on your toes and remind you why having such a diverse team is so rewarding. The laughter, the unpredictability, the shared joy – that’s what made the night unforgettable.”
Fraser MacLean, Managing Director.
And now we’re encouraging others in the industry to reflect and act.
- How are you creating opportunities?
- How are you making space for people who might have been overlooked?
- How are you building workplaces that reflect the diversity of the communities we serve?
This award is a milestone, but it’s also a responsibility – a reminder that the work doesn’t stop here. Every new driver we onboard, every depot we open, and every operational decision we make is a chance to raise the bar for inclusion in logistics.
Changing the Future of Logistics
Now here’s where we stand: We believe this isn’t just about M&H Carriers – it’s about what the whole industry can choose to do next.
Logistics has a real chance to open its doors wider: to young people looking for their first break, to women building careers in a sector that hasn’t always welcomed them, and to anyone who’s ever felt there wasn’t a place for them here.
Putting people at the centre isn’t just good business – it’s how we build stronger teams, stronger communities, and a stronger industry for the future.
Are you ready to play your part in making it happen?
