We don’t do it for the spotlight, but moments like this remind us how much it means.
This week we were incredibly proud to learn that M&H Carriers has been shortlisted for the Operational Excellence Award at this year’s Motor Transport Awards – one of the biggest celebrations of road transport and logistics in the UK.
For almost 40 years, the Motor Transport Awards have recognised the companies and people who keep the country moving, shining a light on businesses that have overcome huge challenges – from rising costs to the urgent push for decarbonisation – while continuing to deliver excellence.
Which is why, for us, this recognition is particularly special.
When Menzies Parcels closed in early 2024, hundreds of jobs and countless communities across the north of Scotland faced an uncertain future for their deliveries. That’s when M&H Carriers stepped up. And while we might be a little biased – our team outdid themselves.
In record time, our operational superstars:
- Opened four new depots
- Rolled out £2 million worth of new vehicles
- Launched a brand-new software platform that transformed the way we work with national and international carriers
But this wasn’t a short-term fix. It was about building resilience for the long term. By expanding our infrastructure and upgrading our technology, we made sure that deliveries to remote communities – from Skye to Caithness – didn’t just continue, but improved. Our new systems introduced real-time tracking, photographic proof of delivery, and greater transparency for our customers, while our depot network cut unnecessary mileage, reduced emissions, and sped up services.
And the impact has been huge:
- Parcel-handling capacity increased from 15,000 to 25,000 per day
- Six new lorries and 20 new vans joined the fleet
- Four depots – in Invergordon, Aviemore, Lochgilphead and Broadford – strengthened our reach into some of Scotland’s most remote areas
- Local jobs were protected, and new opportunities created across the Highlands and Islands
But behind these numbers are people – our drivers, depot staff, and operations teams – whose determination kept businesses supplied and families connected through one of the toughest challenges our industry has faced.
From early mornings on the road to late nights in the depots, their commitment is what kept the north of Scotland moving, and we’re incredibly proud to have them recognised for their hard work and dedication on this national platform.
The winners will be announced on Wednesday, September 3 at the Motor Transport Awards ceremony in London, where we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for a win!
Although, whatever the outcome, we couldn’t be prouder of the team who made this possible.
